Hire > Filming and photography

Turner Contemporary welcomes all types of pre-booked filming, including feature films, television dramas, documentaries, interviews, photographic shoots and student projects. We can also facilitate filming for commercials providing there is no conflict with Turner Contemporary’s existing corporate relationships.

Beautiful and dramatic, Turner Contemporary is a superb filming venue.

Designed by Stirling Award winners David Chipperfield Architects and situated on the historic Margate seafront, the quasi-industrial building is strikingly modern yet subtly evocative.

Outdoor spaces, such as the front terrace, offer a contemporary backdrop of concrete and glass. The interior spaces are infused with natural light from generous windows which look out on the panoramic sea views and epic horizon which so impressed and influenced JMW Turner.

Foyle Rooms

Located on the ground floor of Turner Contemporary, the Foyle Rooms are a dedicated, flexible space and provide an ideal filming location. This unique soundproof space can be hired whole or split into three sub-divisions for creating bespoke sets or dressing rooms for cast and crew.

The panoramic windows capture Margate’s famous seascape and infuse the room with a calm, relaxed atmosphere whilst the private terrace provides an attractive outside area.

Turner Contemporary resides on the iconic Margate seafront. The building is situated on the exact same site as the ‘Cold Harbour’ guest house where Turner stayed on his frequent visits to Margate, recreating his original view and capturing the same unique Thanet light that inspired many of his works. From the gallery, everyone will be able to experience and enjoy the panoramic views over the harbour that Turner himself saw.
