Turnips and Playground

For Early Years

Turnips

Through working in partnership with three local children’s centres and with support from The Margate Early Learning community and Save The Children, these bi-monthly workshops offer a variety of bespoke sensory and creative activities for all families to enjoy.

The sessions are advertised through the local children’s centres, making sure we reach disadvantaged families and encourage new audiences into the gallery who would never have engaged with the Gallery or in the arts prior to attending a Turnip session. The success of the first few sessions has attracted a diverse group of local families to engage with the arts and learn new simple skills to carry on at home with the free craft bags handed out at the end.

Playground

Free non-verbal and sensory creative play sessions for children aged 0 – 18 months and their parents or carers led by a team of artists and musicians from Playground. The sessions come in blocks of 6 and are advertised through the local children’s centres, making sure we reach disadvantaged young children and their families. Each session seeks to inspire by immersing them and those who care for them in creative activity that is deeply engaging, transformative and of the highest quality.

This project is part of Kent County Council’s Playground Programme and is generously supported by the Margate Early Learning Community and Save the Children UK.
