Join artist Sophie Calle for a conversation about her new exhibition at Turner, ‘Something Missing?’ Sharing her insight into the series on display, and reflecting on the theme of absence, which endures in her work, this is a special opportunity to hear about Calle's practice from the artist herself.
The conversation will be followed by audience questions and an opportunity to preview the exhibition, with the bar open after the event.

About the speakers
Sophie Calle has represented France at the 52nd International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2007 and been the subject of numerous major solo exhibitions worldwide including, most recently, Sophie Calle: Overshare (Walker Art Center, Minneapolis), Absences: Sophie Calle & Toulouse-Lautrec (Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo and À toi de faire, ma mignonne (Musee Picasso, Paris). In 2024, she presented Finir en Beaute in the cryptoporticus at Arles as part of the photography festival Rencontres d’Arles in France.
Internationally, Calle is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Centre Pompidou, Paris; and Tate, London, among many others.
Calle is the recipient of numerous awards, including most recently the Praemium Imperiale Award in 2024, as well as the Royal Photographic Society’s Centenary Medal, an Infinity Award from the International Center of Photography, and the Hasselblad Foundation International Award in Photography, among others.
Calle lives and works in Malakoff and Paris, France.
Emma Lewis is Curator at Turner Contemporary, where her recent projects include Resistance (2025), Ed Clark (2024) and Beatriz Milhazes (2023). She was previously at Tate Modern, where she organised and co-organised exhibitions and collection displays including Dora Maar (2019), Olafur Eliasson: In Real Life (2019), Modigliani (2017) and Wolfgang Tillmans (2017), and was jointly responsible for the strategic development of Tate's photography collection.
A specialist in photography, Emma is the author of Photography: A Feminist History (Hachette, 2021) and Isms: Understanding Photography (Routledge, 2017). She guest curated and edited Sue Williamson & Lebohang Kganye: Tell Me What You Remember for the Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia (2023), along with its accompanying catalogue, published by Yale University Press.
