Celebrating the National Year of Reading with interactive storytelling, creative drawing workshops, and a mix of books for all ages.
In the lead-up to Margate Pride and to mark the National Year of Reading, join us for a joyful, family-focused celebration of inclusive children's literature in the light-filled Clore Learning Studio.
This event brings together local authors and illustrators alongside nationally recognised guests and local talent.

Families are invited to relax and enjoy refreshments while browsing and ordering books, reading together, chatting informally with the authors, and having books signed.
About the illustration workshop with Ash Attzs
Do you love how drawings bring stories to life? This is your opportunity to have a go! Ash Attzs will guide you in creating a unique character and encourage you in your own way of drawing. You don't have to be an art expert. This illustration workshop will be expertly led to help you discover how you enjoy expressing yourself through art.
Workshop length: 40 minutes.

About Lennie Martin
Lennie Martin is a producer, educator and activist. Her award-winning platform Lennie Stories champions diversity and inclusivity in children’s picture books. She has designed resources and delivered training to educational institutions, community organisations and corporations. Lennie is Assistant Head of Year in a Thanet secondary school. She has hosted family story time for Margate Pride since 2018 and continues to produce book events and deliver workshops for children and families.
About Ash Attzs
Ashton Attzs is a painter, illustrator, and unapologetic joy-bringer. Based in the UK, her work bursts with colour, character, and radical compassion. Through charming figures and bold compositions, Ashton reimagines everyday life as a space for tenderness, connection, and pride. Where all bodies, identities, and experiences are not only welcomed but celebrated. Whilst studying BA Fine Art at Central Saint Martins Ashton rose to public acclaim in 2018 when she won the Evening Standard Art Prize with her painting Don’t Stay in Ya Lane. She is now the illustrator for Dr Ronx’s books Amazing Bodies and How to Save a Life and will run a unique, fun illustration workshop for our 5+ kids.
About Dr Ronx
Dr Ronx is an award-winning trans non-binary emergency medicine doctor by profession. On screen, they are best known for their role as a presenter on CBBC’s Operation Ouch. They describe themself as a queer, black, intersectional feminist. Driven and determined, they self-funded their way through Medical School after leaving home in their teenage years, graduating from King's College Medical School in 2011.
Dr Ronx faced a challenging upbringing and realises their unique story can help motivate and inspire young people from all walks of life. Dr Ronx is passionate about community, volunteering and giving back as demonstrated by them mentoring Hackney young people, giving presentations in local schools, raising money for various charities and championing young people to feel empowered to achieve.
Dr Ronx has hosted a number of landmark documentaries.
Their books, Amazing Bodies and How to Save a Life from Harper Collins' Little Experts series will be available to browse and buy on the day.
Their motto is 'You cannot be, what you do not see'.
About Lotte Jeffs
Lotte Jeffs has spent her career writing columns, profiles and think pieces for the British press. She has worked as an editor for ELLE and ES Magazine, and is the author of the novel This Love, co-author of Do Ask, Do Tell and The Queer Parent and the children's picture book My Magic Family. Lotte is currently Editorial Lead of Gay Times Magazine. Her picture book will be available to buy at the event.
