Both writers live and work by the sea and bring to this event their powerful perspectives as migrant women whose stories are shaped by the landscapes of the British coast.
About the authors
Jacqueline Crooks
Jacqueline Crooks is a Jamaican-born British writer whose work explores migration, subcultures, and the rhythms of resistance. Her award-winning debut novel, Fire Rush—a story of dub reggae, love, freedom, and Black womanhood—was published in 2023.
Xiaolu Guo
Xiaolu Guo is a Chinese British novelist, memoirist and filmmaker. Her novels include A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers, and I Am China. Her memoir Once Upon A Time In The East won the National Book Critics Circle Award 2017. Her latest novel is a retelling of Moby Dick, entitled Call Me Ishmaelle.
