Explore the remarkable beauty and structural diversity of the natural world through observational drawing, pattern-making, and design creation, working with textures and patterns.
About the workshop
Beginning with a broad exploration of natural artefacts you will investigate how their intricate structures relate to contemporary graphic art. From this wide view, the workshop then focuses in on beetle species as a striking example of nature’s design ingenuity.
Inspired by the graphic style of artist Lily Mixe, participants will engage in mindful observational drawing and creative pattern-making, developing their own design with distinctive textures, patterns, and personality. Working in black and white or colour, you will examine natural patterns from multiple sources before applying selected motifs to your work.
The workshop includes:
- Exploring a range of natural artefacts and their patterns
- Focusing on beetle species as a key example of structural diversity
- Studying and developing natural patterns
- Applying selected patterns to your design
