An afternoon of creating and reflecting on omens—the stories behind them, and how we relate to them.
Animal omens have survived through folklore, old texts, and handed down through generations. They're not fact or truth, but a glimpse into how we think about luck, loss, death, and hope.
Taking inspiration from the current exhibition and how Hulda Guzmán depicts animals, birds and her demons in her paintings, this workshop invites you to play creatively with the idea of omens—exploring the stories behind them and using a variety of art materials to illustrate the tales
Join artist Lucy St. Smith and health care professional Justine Robinson for an afternoon of making and reflecting, exploring the question: can perception exist beyond the mind and body—and can we engage with the mystery that lies beyond time itself?
This workshop is open to everyone aged 18+, and is hosted by Pilgrims Hospice as part of an ongoing collaboration with Turner Contemporary.
Lucy St. Smith
Lucy St. Smith is a visual artist, writer and facilitator. Since studying Art History and Fine Art at Goldsmiths she has been a passionate advocate for community and participatory arts, collaborating with a variety of settings from the Tate Modern to the Green Gathering.
Justine Robinson
Justine is a health care professional with 14 years of experience in palliative care, supporting individuals and families through some of life’s most tender and profound transitions. Justine is passionate about building community that nurtures authentic connection—creating compassionate spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported as they explore healing, meaning, and belonging together.
