A creative writing workshop exploring our relationship with the sea throughout the seasons
A seasonal creative writing series exploring our relationship with the sea across the year. Each workshop responds both to the shifting rhythms of the coastline and the changing exhibitions at Turner Contemporary. Sessions include readings from a range of genres alongside visual artworks, using these as prompts for writing that moves between observation, memory and imagination.
Each workshop works as a standalone session, while also forming part of a wider series. Participants can return across the seasons, gradually building a connection to place and developing a body of writing over time.
Autumn: Exploring change and transition, using the rhythms of the sea and tidal shifts as inspiration, alongside readings, responses to the current exhibition, and guided writing prompts focused on nostalgia, harvesting, and community.
Winter: A quieter, introspective workshop focused on stillness, depth and the unseen, with readings guiding slower, more reflective writing.
Spring: A regenerative session centered on renewal and beginnings, using the energy of spring and the sea to spark new writing.
