Charlie George

Charlie is a writer/performer and escape artist.

An ex-Jehovah’s Witness, she left home in her early teens due to religious differences with her single-parent mother. Charlie was into evolution & women, her mother wasn’t a fan of either.

She was transient homeless and funnelled into the arts as a teenager, “running away to join the Circus” in Bristol at Circomedia where she began clowning & trained as an aerialist.

She progressed to writing scripts for live performance. She wrote her first play, based on real-life experiences of a group of queer women on an LGBTQ club scene for Bristol Pride.

After years as a dancer/circus performer, hanging upside down shivering in a leotard at festivals. She started stand-up comedy after a beginners course at Angel Comedy Club in London and has been gigging ever since.

She won LGBTQ New Comedian of the Year and was a So You Think You’re Funny & Funny Women Awards runner up in 2019.

She has written for Charlie Brooker, Frankie Boyle, Joe Lycett, Kiri Pritchard-McClean & Mawaan Rizwan and gigged all across the country as a stand up & MC.

She is writing a book about her upbringing & journey called Door to Door.
