Turner Contemporary is located in Margate, on the north Kent coast.
Margate is a 90 minute train journey
from Central London.

Exhibitions at Turner Contemporary are free. Please consider supporting our work by making a donation when you visit. Your support helps us to realise our vision to make world-class art accessible to all.

Turner Contemporary overlooks the sea and is in the vicinity of many beautiful beaches. We ask that our visitors work with us to take care of the inspirational environment that surrounds the gallery. Please put your litter in the bins provided, and participate in the #2minutebeachclean.

Please do not bring food, drink or pets, except guide dogs, into the building.

Enjoy the views from the window in our Sunley Gallery and see the skies that JMW Turner famously hailed “the loveliest in all Europe”. We regularly commission and display artworks in this space. See what artworks might be on show during your trip by checking our What’s On. Drop in for something to eat or drink in our Café.

Here for an hour or more?

Explore our latest exhibition. If you arrive at 11.30am, you can join a free daily highlight tour, which gives you an insight into the artworks on display. On Sundays, there are workshops for families created by our learning team in collaboration with artists. Browse our shop and find the perfect gift or souvenir.

Here all day?

Make the most of your visit by exploring all of the exhibitions and artworks we have on display, which you can find by checking our What’s On and filtering to the dates you want.

Enjoy a delicious meal in our café, made from locally sourced produce. Discover local makers and unique products in our shop. Beyond the building, don’t miss Antony Gormley’s Another Time, and Tracey Emin’s ‘I Never Stopped Loving You’ neon, located on Droit House.

We are just a short distance from Margate Old Town where there are a number of boutique shops, artists’ studios, galleries, cafés and restaurants. You can find out more about exploring Margate and the neighbouring resorts of Broadstairs and Ramsgate here.

A stone’s throw from the beach and with workshops every weekend and school holiday, Turner Contemporary is a place for families to discover and create together. Our resource trolley is packed full of interesting objects to help explore the gallery and our reading area has a range of children’s books connected to the current exhibition.
