The Thanet Big Sing Community Choir, resident choir at Turner Contemporary, will be performing the World premiere of Lost & Found, words and music by conductor Tony Castro, accompanied by a seven-piece orchestra.
Written in part during the Covid-19 pandemic, Lost & Found reflects on how change (loss) can impact on our sense of self and well-being and nurture a life-affirming sense of hope (found).
Commissioned by The Thanet Big Sing Choir, Lost & Found is Tony Castro’s third large-scale work for the choir, following Oh I do like to be (2019) and On the Tram (2018), both works being choral responses to exhibitions at Turner Contemporary (Seaside Photographed, and Journeys with the Wasteland, respectively). While Lost & Found took its initial inspiration from the proposed 2020 exhibition, Ellen Harvey’s The Tourists, the intervening Covid-19 pandemic created a different context in which the work evolved.
In writing Lost & Found, Tony Castro sought to capture something of how loss affects people differently while re-affirming a sense of resilience, positivity, and hope; ‘life goes on’.
When: 2 April 2022. Performances at 12pm and 2pm.
