This one day workshop led by creative pattern cutter, Timothy O’Sullivan, will introduce participants to professional pattern drafting techniques for tailored garments by focusing on key details of the lapel and shoulder line to create dynamic silhouettes.

The workshop is suitable for all levels of sewing / pattern cutting knowledge as our focus will be on discovering simple techniques used in the fashion industry which can then be easily adapted to any base pattern.

Morning Session: 10.30am – 1pm

  • Pattern Drafting: The Lapel – demonstration of professional drafting techniques followed by exploration and development of own design.
  • Pattern Drafting: The Padded Shoulder and Tailored Sleeve.
  • The Shoulder Pad: Demonstration of techniques to create your own shoulder pads.

Afternoon Session: 2pm – 4:30pm

  • Developing the pattern draft into a professional sewing pattern
  • Demonstration of techniques to create a calico “toile” to test shape and fit using couture pinning techniques.

About Timothy O’Sullivan

Timothy O’Sullivan is a Senior Lecturer in Fashion at Ravensbourne University, London and the creator of @mr_o_pattern_studio. His work as a Creative Pattern Cutter has featured in British and Italian Vogue, on the Oscars Red Carpet and the catwalks of London, Milan, and New York. He is also a regular contributor to The Design Museum, London and has created specialist fashion workshops inspired by their exhibitions: Objects of Desire: Surrealism and Design and Rebel: 30 Years of London Fashion.
