'Inspiring Women' Exhibition by Power of Women Thanet

Foyle Gallery

This exhibition showcases artwork by 7-10 year olds from five Thanet primary schools, who each responded to the question ‘What makes an inspiring woman?’. Local artist Karen Vost facilitated the creative workshops as part of this year’s Power of Women Thanet festival 'Joy and Celebration’.

Power of Women Thanet are proud to present the Inspiring Women exhibition showcasing the amazing artwork created by local school children during a workshop facilitated by the experienced artist, art primary teacher, and art therapist Karen Vost. Commissioned by POW, the workshop explored the concept of what makes a woman truly inspiring. Using images of 18 spotlighted women, the children created their own collages.

This exhibition is a testament to the talent, creativity, and imagination of our young artists, who have created unique pieces that celebrate the strength and resilience of women. The collages on display are a tribute to the inspirational figures featured in the workshop and a powerful reminder of the importance of recognizing and celebrating the achievements of women. We invite you to come and experience the magic of this exhibition, which highlights the incredible impact that art can have on our lives and communities.

Participating schools include:

  • Newlands Primary School

About POW

Power of Women is an arts organisation based in Thanet, Kent and we aim to celebrate creativity that champions equality.

Gender inequality still exists in society and Power of Women addresses this through the curation of an annual arts festival and an ongoing community engagement programme. We acknowledge that feminism is complex, involves differing views, and is sometimes controversial. We embrace this complexity and use our platform to offer a safe space for all to learn and discuss.

The Power of Women annual festival celebrates International Women’s Day and the creativity of women and non-binary people. Taking place across Thanet every March, it includes workshops, exhibitions, performances, music, comedy, film, panel talks, theatre, and dance, both in person and online, for a local and global audience. It is accompanied by a month-long Fringe Festival that offers a diverse range of events created and run by local artists, groups, venues and practitioners.

Our engagement programme aims to connect local people with the arts by offering year-round projects to inspire and educate. We enable artists to work with local schools and community groups with the intention of bringing greater involvement in our wider public arts programme.

The organisation was founded by local arts manager Christina Clark-McQuaid in 2015, with theatre producer Jan Ryan joining as Artistic Director until 2020. It is now run by CEO Rosanagh alongside Artistic Director Amy Redmond, Engagement Director Francesca Alphonso and Marketing Director Katie Hogben, who all oversee a skilled team to deliver our work.
