The Open Air Drawing Room
Commissioned by Applause Rural Touring and Turner Contemporary, to celebrate Turner Prize 2019,The Open Air Drawing Room by Eric MacLennan celebrates the innovative techniques of JMW Turner and John Ruskin culminating in the creation of hundreds of small watercolours.
Members of the public, at outdoor events across Kent and the South East, have participated at The Open Air Drawing Room – a celebration of the collective effort – to make two monumental artworks: A Sea Of Faces and A Show Of Hands.
A Sea Of Faces is being displayed at Turner Contemporary from 6 Oct 2019 – 12 January 2020. A Show of Hands is being exhibited outside on the gallery terrace.
This socially engaged art project combines performance and painting. There are over 500 participants to date.
Co commissioned by Turner Contemporary and Applause Outdoors, the project gratefully acknowledges support from Cass Art.
Thanks also to the Almeida Theatre and the London Bubble for rehearsal and workshop facilities.
