The Open Air Drawing Room
Commissioned by Applause Rural Touring and Turner Contemporary, to celebrate Turner Prize 2019, The Open Air Drawing Room by Eric MacLennan celebrates the innovative techniques of JMW Turner and John Ruskin and will result in the creation of hundreds of small watercolours.
Members of the public, at outdoor events across Kent, have been invited to make watercolours which will later come together into a unified and monumental painting.
This artwork will be displayed at Turner Contemporary from 6 Oct 2019 – 12 January 2020. Images of the artists’ hands will also be exhibited on the gallery terrace.
All participating artists (and a guest) are invited to attend the preview of the artwork at Turner Contemporary on Sunday 6th October from 1pm until 4pm.
Refreshments will be provided.
This project gratefully acknowledges support from Cass Art.
Thanks also to the Almeida Theatre and the London Bubble for rehearsal and workshop facilities.
There is still time to take part in this new participatory project:
