OSE Public Programme 2023-24

Turner Contemporary have partnered with Open School for their 2023-24 Associate-led public Programme Where Echo Lies. This programme takes us to the edges of our experience, where it is dark, and all is not necessarily clear. Plunging into new depths, the programme thinks through deep time and the unconscious mind. What forms of solace might be found in the night that cannot emerge in the light of day? What might we hear when surrounded by this darkness? Through myth-making, spectatorship, performance, and painting, you are invited to look inward and ask how can our experience help us understand what lies beneath the knowable?

Join Arts Psychotherapist and Educator Alice Davies and OSE Associate Kenny Mala Ngombe for an experiential art-making workshop. This will be a space for collective and intuitive art-making, where the small group dynamic may be considered a microcosm of society at large, and where significant themes that arise through acts of art making and discussion in the group can be explored as meaningful reflections of such.

About Open School East

Open School East is a free, independent art school in Margate that focuses on collective learning through the arts for adults, young people and children. Each year the current cohort of Associate Artists develop and deliver a public programme of events. Their public events, activities and short courses invite interactions between the artistic community, the local neighbourhood and the broader public. They include skills-based workshops, talks, seminars, reading groups, walks, performances, concerts, screenings and social gatherings. They are organised by, and in dialogue with OSE alumni and staff, guest practitioners, and local and regional partner organisations.
