Immerse yourself in the world of 90s cutting-edge fashion and embark on a journey of creative learning as we delve into the avant-garde styles and revolutionary tailoring techniques pioneered by fashion icons such as John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Martin Margiela, and Hussein Chalayan.
This hands-on workshop led by creative pattern cutter, Timothy O’Sullivan, will introduce participants to essential techniques of tailored pattern drafting by focusing on key details of the lapel and shoulder while taking inspiration from the razor shape silhouettes and extreme detailing synonymous with 90s fashion.
Morning Session: 10am – 12.30pm
- Introduction to key designers of the 1990s and their impact on tailored fashion detailing.
- Pattern Drafting: The lapel – basic techniques and exploration of own design.
- Pattern Drafting: The padded shoulder and tailored sleeve.
Afternoon Session: 2pm – 4.30pm
- Develop pattern draft into a professional sewing pattern.
- Create a calico “toile” to test shape and fit using couture pinning techniques.

About Timothy O’Sullivan
Timothy O’Sullivan is a Senior Lecturer in Fashion at Ravensbourne University, London and the creator of @mr_o_pattern_studio. His work as a Creative Pattern Cutter has featured in British and Italian Vogue, on the Oscars Red Carpet and the catwalks of London, Milan, and New York. He is also a regular contributor to The Design Museum, London and has created specialist fashion workshops inspired by their exhibitions: Objects of Desire: Surrealism and Design and Rebel: 30 Years of London Fashion.
