Join OSE Associate Milou Stella and artist and curator Flora Bradwell for an artist talk & free flowing round-table discussion that takes the grotesque body and its surrounding mythologies as a starting point to explore and question the history and image of the toothed vagina. 

The session will start with a short craft & making activities in which participants are invited to produce toothed vagina hats of their own.

Approaching this multifaceted symbol from the position of a mythological hybrid creature we invite participants from all genders and sexes into an inclusive and welcoming queer space.

Flora Bradwell is an artist whose playful practice revels in the generously grotesque. Flora has exhibited internationally and collaborated in curating site responsive projects, performance events and exhibitions across the UK. Curatorial roles include co-director at Bad Art, curator at Inland Project and a member of the icing room collective. In 2011 Flora co-founded Greenhorn Short Film Festival, an annual London-wide event celebrating emerging filmmaking talent; producing five editions of the festival. Flora runs artist residencies from her shed in Walthamstow: Gaff Space. Flora has also undertaken teaching placements at Kingston School of Art, Camberwell College of Arts and City and Guilds of London Art School.

OSE Public Programme 2022-23

This event is held as part of Open School East’s 2022-23 Associate-led Public Programme. This year’s Associate-led Public Programme responds to themes of social & ecological hybridity, as set out in the Associate’s first term curriculum entitled When The World Looks Back At You: about storytelling, ecology and the weird led by artist Saelia Aparicio. Through explorations of the voice, the body and sensitive connections with natural and man-made networks that unite the world around us, the Associate-led Public Programme looks to and explores creativity and collectivity in green spaces.

This year we’re excited to announce our partnership with Turner Contemporary, who are generously hosting part of the public programme.

Turner Contemporary is one of the UK’s leading art galleries. Founded to celebrate JMW Turner’s connection to Margate in 2001, the David Chipperfield designed gallery opened in 2011.
